Letting Agent’s are not regulated by
statue, however many Letting Agents follow voluntary codes of conduct. The two most well known organisations that regulate the code
of conduct of Letting Agents are The Association of Residential Letting
Agents and The National Approved Letting Scheme. General Aims of the Letting Schemes Both schemes require that the applying
Letting Agent adhere to a Code of Conduct.
Each Letting Agent will be vetted on application, such vetting
will include; taking up references, financial status checks, a history
of trade and to some degree proven track record in letting property. The Letting Schemes will monitor members
and oversee complaints. Any
of the schemes have the power to withdraw or suspend membership
therefore giving much needed confidence to tenants and landlords. |
